No worries there - I'm a believer in freedom to live where you want - part of my Libertarian views! I believe I saw a statistic last week that the number of people vaccinated in the US has now surpassed the number of people known to have been infected... • Clinton won 48.2% of the vote - that's a margin of negative 2.1%
• Trump won the Electoral College vote 304-227

and in 2020:

• Trump won 46.9% of the vote
• Biden won 51.3% of the vote
• Biden won the Electoral College vote 306-232

(If you look closely: in 2016 there were 7 "unfaithful" electors in the Electoral College - thankfully, not enough to sway the outcome though. There were no unfaithful electors in 2020.)

• Trump would lose badly

• Dems would take the Senate by 1-3 seats
  They didn't - it's a 50/50 split, and if Trump had stayed out of the GA Senate runoffs, the Republicans would be holding a 52-48 edge in the Senate today! But Trump's divisiveness energized the Dems and we lost BOTH seats (though we should be able to get one of those back in 2022, when the Democratic electorate won't be so energized
• Dems would take a wider - a much wider - lead in the House! A Juggernaut!
  They didn't: They lost seats, and in fact, it's one of the closest House "balances" in decades!
  Also: GAINING seats in the House while LOSING the Presidency - both in raw votes and in the Electoral College - is extremely rare in US politics!
• Dems would win in the State legislatures, setting them up for having control of a majority of them when redistricting happens due to the 2020 Census
  Again, they didn't. In fact, Republicans GAINED control of 2 more state legislative bodies! It's now 61-37-2!

For real Conservatives, we have an easy road-map ahead:

1. Dump Trump and the rest of the QAnon believing wingnuts of the far right... we don't win being demonstrably crazy and clueless

2. Work those State legislatures and get more Republican districts drawn after the Census is finalized

3. Keep as many Senate seats as possible in 2022, but know ahead of time that it's a long-shot to keep all our seats... The Senate is likely to be in Democratic hands until 2024... sigh... it's just in the cards, but we can limit the losses and lay the right groundwork for 2024 - when the Dems are going to be in the same position we are - defending far more seats in the cycle!

4. GET THE HOUSE in 2022! It shouldn't be hard! The President's party nearly always loses a few seats in their mid-term election cycle... but we could win big and have a crushingly-big margin going into 2024 -

5. To WIN in 2024, we have to keep Trump away. He's toxic! While he won in 2016's Electoral College, he lost the popular vote - widely - and things have progressively worsened in the electorate as he's remained the center of the party!
   Time to move on... this time, with a real Conservative!

I have visited "war-torn" Israel and Palestine. I have visited the "evil empire" of Iran. I have visited many parts of Europe and Central America. (I hope to visit South America 2-summers from now... Brazil, Argentina, & Chile are on the agenda so far.)

In the vast majority of cases, the people themselves were, warm, kind, generous (sometimes to a fault), and giving.

Honestly, while we may have our freedoms (which is a Governmental thing, not a Societal one), I personally think Americans in public are some of the coldest, most cruel and uncaring, most judgemental, and self-centered of societies I have encountered in my travels. Get them in private and many are very different (kind, giving, generous, open, etc) - but that's where the societies seem to differ...

• When I got lost in Paris once, I was actually approached by someone offering to help me find my way...
• When I got lost in Iran, a taxi driver took me back to my hotel - free of charge!
• When I got lost in Los Angeles, I had to go to 3 different convenience stores to find someone who would even tell me what part of LA I was in!

(I know - it seems I got lost a lot - but a lot of my traveling predates smartphones and apps to make sure you are NOT lost - EVER!)

I also agree that the US response to COVID-19 would be laughable if it weren't for the awful, human tragedy - and you are equally right that our former President, Donald Trump, is a leading cause for the absurdly awful position we find ourselves in today.

But I still maintain that having our freedoms are generally worth the cost. It's been a particularly high cost with the anti-maskers, and the anti-vaxers, but all good things have a cost.

You can believe that China's system is superior. That is your right. I neither claim, nor require others agree with me. We don't learn by being the same, we learn by being DIFFERENT and through the free exchange of ideas and experiences.

More than anything else, even at 57 years of age, I am a student - still hungry for new knowledge and new experiences.

Sad to say, though I've traveled a lot of this crazy world, the closest I've come to China is Hong Kong (before 1999, when it was still a UK territory). I am hoping to travel more when I retire - and China (what many call "mainland China") is on my "bucket list" From all I've read and seen, it is an amazingly beautiful country.
