He looked at me with one of those "I know we're you're coming from" expressions, but I could see the cogs churning as recalled it. He said "It was my first movie, and I was so nervous". I told him there was no evidence of that on screen. He was very taken by my praise of him and the movie. It's a wonderful piece of work. I wonder if it would have gained more attention and be better known today had Branagh agreed to take his stage role into the movie.</p>

<p dir="auto"><em>Maurice</em> (1987) is similar in some aspects.</p>
