In general I agree, but at a basic level it's people who lie, not large institutions.  That said, people in an autocratic government who will tow the party line to preserve their jobs and, in dire cases, their lives.  We saw this with Hitler, very likely with Xi, and definitely with Trump.

China is a communist dictatorship. This fact governed their response to the outbreak of the disease, which basically amounted to initial attempts at cover-up and denial. However, you cannot expect anything else from a country where there are no check and balances, and where there is no viable political opposition. Moreover, the ensuing disruptions in Europe, North America and elsewhere have only been bad news for the Chinese export industry. With global economy in chaos, China cannot stop its economy from slowing down. And when its economy has problems, the Chinese communist party faces increased pressure. So, I don't think they plotted to have this unleashed on the world.

If there is no trade war, you're probably right. But the fact is China was losing the battle with the US, which also will threaten to the economy of China. Then the virus spread around the world, it's just coincidence or a causal link? I think China want to punish the US government and trump, and of course, prevent trump Re-electing president by releasing the disease, they always think no trump, no trade war. They really like Hilary and Biden.

How silly you think the Chinese government is innocent! They always put the stability of their power into the first place, the economy and the lives of people are less important to them.
