It's that way to protect you.  If someone wants to message you, they can put a comment on the torrent page, and you'll be notified.  You can either respond to them on the torrent page, or directly to their username by the private message feature in the upper right of the screen.

The torrent you linked to is a very welcome addition to the site–good pictures, good description, you followed the rules.  It would be nice if everyone did.  I'll put some seed bonus there as a welcome.

Just started uploading torrents and really enjoying the site.

On the torrent pages that I've uploaded that other members can see, it says "upped by anonymous".
Does that mean other users cannot see that it's been uploaded by me?  adamshepardl ?

Yes, only the mods, admins, etc. can see who uploaded a torrent.  Anonymity is better for you.  It is supposed to be like that.  People can comment on the torrent at the bottom of the page.  I think you do get a notification when that happens.
