Guido Westerwelle married - the FDP leader and foreign minister married his life partner Michael Mronz on Friday (here an archive photo).

Translation from Spiegel.de: hXXp://www.spiegel.de/fotostrecke/fotostrecke-59515.html

Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle and his partner Michael Mronz have the knot.
The wedding of the FDP politician and the manager took a report, held in Bonn in
the immediate family.

Berlin - Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has married his life partner Michael
Mronz on Friday. An FDP spokesman confirmed this to SPIEGEL ONLINE, without
giving details.

The online edition of the Bild-Zeitung reported, the ceremony was held in Bonn,
Mayor Jürgen Nimptsch had married the couple. Present were 20 people with only
the closest family members have been, writes the paper. Further details were not
immediately known. "Michael Mronz and Guido Westerwelle consider this a private
matter," said the spokesman.

The FDP chairman and the sports event managers have for several years, a couple
and also appear together in public. In an interview with SPIEGEL Westerwelle
said in 2004, shortly after learning of the relationship: "I'm for more of
course in dealing with these issues. I want a man Guido Westerwelle live my life
because I only one have. That's not a dress rehearsal, but this is my life. "

He could understand the interest in private matters, Mronz said a little later,
it was also up to a certain extent legitimate. "If the information content is
adequately covered, should the private life be respected - it has every right,
whether prominent or not," he said.

Earlier this year Westerwelle had been sharply criticized because Mronz had
accompanied him on a trip to South America. The opposition accused the minister,
he travels abroad to mix private and official interests. Westerwelle has
rejected this decision, he saw himself then as a victim of a campaign.

Homosexual couples can enter into a registered partnership in Germany, the
marriage between a man and woman legally can not, however, equal. Is based on
the Partnership Act, adopted by the SPD-Green government in 2001.

LOL - not to discuss wording right now: at least it is an advancement, that some states in Germany allow "registerd partnerships". That is not true for whole Germany but only for some (few) states (usually with a SPD and green majority in the state's government. We had a representative Gallup poll directly after the "marriage" of Westerwelle, where more than 60% voted against "same sex marriage" in general. The more you come to the south in Germany the worse the results got:( (No surprise though )

Luckily our constitutional court starts now(!) to tell our politicians they have to change some laws because the difference between registered partnerships and marriage is incompatible with our constitution. I guess I won't be alive any longer when (if ever) this goal is reached
