Myself, I'm an atheist. The other day I was talking with my kids (I'm a high school teacher) waxing nostalgic for that community feeling you can find at a good 'ol southern church: You're welcomed by everyone, big smiles everywhere, a generally good mood abounds. Ah, at my old church they started each service by having you go around and meet someone new. It was nice.

I'd guess for some LGBTQ people coming out might mean giving that up, which could be a terrible loss.

Thoughts, ideas, stories?

I am gay and am relatively religious. I used to be much more so while I was working within church communities, but have toned it down since I left a conservative denomination and started being more active with affirming ones. I still maintain my progressive Christian faith (with a hint of other esotericism) and practices. LGBTQ people of various faiths are becoming more emboldened to come out, while still retaining their faith, even if it might mean switching affiliations, or going at in on their own until they find or recreate an affirming religious community or family.

If you look hard enough (meaning that it's important enough to you to do so), you should be able to find a congregation to suit.

Of course, I'm in a "blue" city in a vast "red" state, so my experience may not be universal.

I personally think it's very beautiful guys. All my relatives and regional "religion leaders" were 100% okay about me comming out because we tend to see body limitations as something temporary.

There's some irony (hypocracy?) in talking about being religious on a site for stealing gay porn.

Well, the Devil (the Adversary) is part of religion, too, so the way I see it is we're all doing his work while we're here. In other words, a forum about religion in a gay torrent site is a perfect fit. ;D

I came of age in the Fairfax district of LA. Lots of Ultra-Orthodox Jews. Many of my friends were Jewish back then. (nostalgic for kugel atm)

I'm Orthodox Jewish and moderately observant. But the thing about traditional forms of Judaism is that we don't particularly care about personal convictions concerning untestable questions. I know Rabbis who are atheists. Even if you do believe, as Mayim Bialik said, "I can imagine a Creator and Sustainer of the Universe. I have trouble imagining one who takes attendance."

Coincidentally, one of the big issues for the Toronto Queer community is that Rev Brent Hawkes is retiring. He's been the leader of the local Metropolitan Community Church here in Toronto for the last 40 years. He pushed the most to have same-sex marriage recognized by the state performing what were the first legal same-sex marriages in modern times. (He performed the weddings that took years going through the courts before they were retroactively recognized.)
