But actually shaving hair doesn't affect its rate of growth. Shaving hair removes a thinner part of the shaft, leaving behind its thicker base. As it grows, the follicle thins from wear — but seems thicker-than-normal at first. This thicker part of a hair follicle's shaft is the first to emerge from shaved skin, giving the appearance and feel of thicker-growing hair. Yet this thick base naturally wears down into a thinner tip over time as the hair continues to grow. (See the attached picture)

It seems that your armpit hairs will not be thicken after it is shaved. I have read some articles about this topic and the final result is that your armpit hairs will be the same as before. The feeling of it is because the new hair is bit harder than the old one at beginning.

The new hair shouldn't feel that much harder, though. If it's feeling harder, maybe consult a doctor.

I would agree..

The reason for this myth is that most guys start shaving facial hair around the first time they get them, and since they tend to grow thicker over the first few years, people assume it's because of the shaving. And as others have pointed out, extremely short blades of hair are rooted closer to the end of the hair and stay more stationery, which is why a stubble feels very sharp compared to long flowing beards. You won't see the difference in thickness once they are back to their usual length.

I used to groom my armpits by shaving and later using a trimmer, and stopped after a few years. They are the same now as they ever were.

You can trim them without having to erase them completely. Therefore, they wouldn't be as thick and pinch you after.
