A thought for Leatherbear, you mention him in your list.
As he had surgery yesterday, any info about his health would be welcome.

I spoke with leatherbear for a while Thursday evening (he and I are in the same time zone).
His spirits are high.
He expects to be in and out of the hospital within 24 hours.
He will be home soon, yet incapacitated and drugged up for a while.
He continued to see all our well-wishes (both members and staff) and I [again] encouraged him to focus on himself and recovery and ignore GT.ru for as long as it takes.
He or I will continue to keep members and staff posted as he and I chat by phone often – a brother in my family-of-choice that I only got to know from this great community.

I've only been around these parts for about 14 months and was promoted to a global moderator (GloMod) two months ago.

In the past year, I cannot tell you all how much that I appreciate you all.

To name ONLY a few:
leatherbear – who got me on-board as a SIGmod a year ago and chats with me by phone
blackdid -- from far away but we have become very close
uwsguy102 -- for helping in so many areas of the forum and making new games available
Pawpcorn – for his incredible resources in making DVD's available to regular members
To the MANY members that continue to fill porn requests and "who is this" requests -- absolutely amazing
To the Staff of about 20 international members that continue to answer the HelpDesk and approve torrents (I often see little work when I log in because of their wonderful efforts -- OMG)
To ALL members here making this site and forum a TRUE community "family of choice" community.

I cannot begin to list the very many members that truly touch my heart.  This post would become overwhelming.

Please NO ONE feel slighted.  I truly love you all.

I have been thinking the same thing recently.

While I don't know the ins-and-outs of how the site works, the mods do a fantastic job - Thank you guys!. I am sure a lot more goes on behind the scenes that we don't know about.

I was wondering how we users can show appreciation for the hard work the mods do….  :urock:

Really I'd like to buy them a beer/coffee/tipple of choice - do you guys ever get together? If so it would be great if we could help out with your bar tab or something in some way....

In the absence of a mod tip jar(?), I have been attempting to show my appreciation by trying to be a better GT.ru citizen and doing things like responding to forum posts, uploadling new torrent (surprisingly easy - even on a Mac,) and by giving seedbonus and a thanks on each torrent I download.

Now I know I probably should have been doing these things anyway, but I am trying to make more of an effort now...

Have to agree with you this place certainly does rock. Ive been a member for several years now and have only just realised what a great community we have here. Its just a shame it took me so long to explore and use the site, something I will be doing more of in the future.

I volunteered to become a SIG Mod about 7 months ago – Special Interest Group Moderator.  This level of "staff" lets me edit/move/split/join post threads in my particular little corner of the forum here.  I love it!  I was a member and simply asked to help.  Any members can request to help in this (or even greater) responsibilities at any time -- just ask.

Last evening, another staff member from here (a FRIEND - not simply an acquaintance) phoned me about this problem.  He and I were, of course, powerless.  During that call, another staffer was reached via PM.  A quick simple plan was developed:  1) Let admins know to get the problem fixed; 2) Post quickly in the forum to assure members; 3) Be present in our IRC chat room to assure members.

I nearly NEVER go to the chat room ... but the other two moderators could handle the "help desk" requests (which my level of service as a SIG Mod doesn't permit) ... so I went to chat.

Here is MY GRATITUDE …

I had a wonderful chance to chat with a number of members I had never met.  They were all friendly and courteous.  They were all appreciative to know the problem was being addressed.

I met a wonderful lad in Australia with whom I chatted a while about all kinds of things beyond the "immediate problem."

The suggestion made that members snoop around the forum while torrents weren't working (shared in the forum and by me in chat) certainly resulted in much more forum activity – including NEW POSTS.

While David was originally thanking staff in this post, I am thanking members in this post.  This place rocks!
