I almost had my life ruined by a crazy bitch who accused me of raping her.  She did it because she wanted my husband (civil partner at the time) and me to take her out clubbing on the other side of town and we only just met her that night.   Thankfully, the pub had pretty good CCTV, which cleared me.  However, I still had to spend 18 hours in jail before it was sorted.   No charges were brought against her, you know, because of gender equality and the patriarchy.

That's a good point and I agree with you; however, it has little to do with the point of my post. I'm under the impression that it doesn't matter how truthful a claim is, it is dismissed by people like you without even doing at least basic research. If someone told me they'd been raped, I would try not to dismiss them as a liar without first learning some details; especially if I knew that person. I've learned never to do that again after a very serious situation. There was a girl at my high school that I was close friends with who told me along with a few other friends that one of my close male friends raped her one day after his football practice. She'd given him a ride home and told me and some other friends that he raped her, and I flat out did not believe her and told her that to her face. Our friendship ended over that situation. I knew this boy and had been to his house and he'd been to mine because he was one of the first people I told I was gay back then, and I thought he'd never do something like that since he'd been such a good friend to me when I needed one. I chose to believe him and a couple of years later in 2010 while I was away in college, I saw on Facebook that he'd been arrested for sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman at a club. I looked up the case on my hometown's news website and it was very clear that he really did commit sexual assault against the woman in a nightclub bathroom. That situation proved to me that sometimes it's very hard to know when someone is being honest. I'm still not 100% convinced that he raped my former female friend, but I do feel like crap for taking his word over hers so quickly.

Edit: Also, domestic violence is very, very serious in my state. We have one of the highest domestic violence rates here, usually between husband and wife. We actually had a recent incident involving a state legislator who had to resign after viciously beating his wife in front of his children, and he co-authored legislation related to domestic violence:

first: making up crime, whether hate or not, is mostly concidered making a false statement, and can and should be punished; i think this works for "both sides".

second: i think, claiming that the "other side" is working with fake news without having proof trivializes any situation; let investigators do their job, do not jump to conclusions, even if circumstances points to a likely or even probable solution. this works for "both sides" too.

third: as long as a country has a working investigative system and a judicial system, it is important to trust those elements at work, police officers, prosecutors and justices doing their jobs.

but back to human decency, i think it is improtant to think about a fiktitious situation, when you get in one, as a observer passing on the sidewalk the other side of the street. What would you do? How far would you go? Would you help or call for help? Would you step in? Would you start recording the situation? Turning back, or running away is an option too, if the alternative is being hurt seriously.

Wouldn't be the first time gays/leftists have invented fake hate crimes, just like the muslim woman in NY that said Trump supporters attacked her on the subway telling her to go back home (fake), the woman in LA that said Trump supporters ripped off her hijab (fake), the black church that was burned down and spray painted with "Trump 2016" on it (fake, one of the black church members burned it down himself), I could go on and on. There's a 90% chance this instance is fake just like all the others.

If anything, he's improved his party's relationship to the gay community.

It still has far more to go, but he's not nearly as influenced by religion as other Republicans.
