Gay Interest on Sun, 14 Nov 2010 15:54:30 GMT

I am speaking as a User now: This is a Category that intrigues me greatly. Truly any movie, TV Show, etc that contains gay Characters. Especially those where the characters are treated as "Normal" by the other characters or society in general.

I am speaking as a Staff Member now:
I would love to see this category added but fear the work that this would create for the Staff. Granted the torrent approval Staff are busy enough with out increasing the workload for them. This from me is high praise from me for those gents. I can , will and have approved torrents but only those which were no-brainers to approve frankly. :rotfl: Every time I enter "Torrent Approval" I feel as if I am ….......entering a house that I know is haunted.........monsters hiding everywhere to bite me in the ass. :rotfl: Now obviously anything I screwed up could be fixed some way some how.
:jaj: The job done by this part of the Staff is under appreciated and there is not enough words to convey my sincere appreciation and admiration for these gentlemen. :jaj:

I do think it is time and enough time to make a decision on this NEW CATEGORY and the value it could add to this tracker. IMHO. I will offer my assistance and willingness to learn how to help with this area.

But let us either add this or deny this New Category. 20 votes are not many out of our membership and staff but it appears to be all we are 'gonna get'. Perhaps a front page poll is in order or some other way to stimulate this discussion to a finalization.

Gay Interest on Sun, 14 Nov 2010 14:47:40 GMT

Hello, my nick is arek22, I am new here.

I have been downloading and seeding at GT for quite a while, but only 3 weeks ago, pressed by low ratio, I learned how to rip dvds and upload torrents (it wasn't that hard!)
I want to say thank you to all the moderators who approved my torrents, especially Uwe!

I uploaded, among others, a torrent of one of my favorites movies, Napola, about boys attending a Nazi prep school during the WW2 - it's a great movie, it reminds me of Dead Poets Society in a way. One of the films not to be missed. But I am not posting here to advertise it…

The thing is, that I got loads of thank you's for this upload from GT members, also via PM. So uploading that torrent was a good idea! But I also got messages saying this is not a gay themed movie, that the gay relationship between the main characters is only in my mind.

Well, then the question is, is such a movie of gay interest? And what is gay interest movie?
In my opinion, in every case we should ask: "If you were straight, would you have equal interest in that movie? Regarding the film I uploaded, I would say, most likely no, maybe I wouldn't care about such a movie at all, unless I had interest in history. The example of Mgr: you like Glenn Miller. If you were straight, would you like Glenn Miller? The answer is most likely, yes - that means Glenn Miller does not fall into the Gay Interest category. And this is how I would stand in this discussion. And I would approve such movies on GT site.

Thank you,

BTW, if you would like to watch the movie I am referring to, it is here
Although there are several instances of something definitely being 'gay-themed' without any actual gay characters, so it does make a tricky situation. sigh There's no definitive answer I guess, so I'm just glad I'm not in a position of authority!!!

Gay Interest on Thu, 21 Oct 2010 23:14:01 GMT

The topic Gay Interest" vs. Gay Themed: let me ask two simple questions:

I am gay, I love music from Glenn Miller. Now: Is Music from Glenn Miller of Gay Interest???

I am gay, I love the DVDs about Harry Potter. Now: Are Harry Potter videos of Gay Interest???

Regardless how you answer: My next question would be: Why?

The most important question though is: where to draw the line between Gay Interest and non Gay Interest? Unless we want to open our site for everything (and I do NOT want that) - how to decide about the gay interest of a certain movie??? We can't have rules without at least a small direction of what belongs to that category.

Not taking in account:
@<bdi>thangcuoi</bdi>:

…
Currently, the only people interested in taking down GT is porn studio (though some prefer it to stay alive for the free advertising/promotion of their products). Gay Interest cover a very wide area. It would makes GT a bigger target for TV network, film studio, music company.
...

although that is quite an important topic to think about carefully before implementing such a category. We have enough trouble with "only porn studios"

after all, last thing we want is a bunch of random interests being uploaded that no one is really interested in.

You raise an interesting point… I'm interested in hearing if other people are interested in this 'ten votes and it's in' proposal that you've submitted. I guess it would guarantee- at least in the beginning- that there's some interest in the torrent. And by extrapolating the number of members who don't ever visit the forums, we could guess that if 10 people are interested enough in the torrent to mark it down, surely enough people would be interested once they see it out in the 'New Torrent' section.

I'll be waiting- with interest, of course- to see how this all progresses.

There's also that line of "what's gay enough to be considered 'Gay Interest'?"

So, if it's easier to just keep it strictly delineated then maybe it should stay that way and if I need to find 'Golden Girls' or something that's not here I'll have to search some other places… but it would be nice to have more stuff here...

Finally, I feel the current system works very well. We already have some gay interest materials at a good ratio to the truely gay stuffs.

My last upload http://tracker.gaytor.rent/details.php?id=82125 got questioned on where the gay relevance was, which was partly my fault for not putting in a more full description at the time of uploading.

I know these things are subjective eg cumeaternc's example of the Golden Girls, which I would guess is popular with alot of gay men. There are many tv programmes/films that don't have blatant gay related content but are generally accepted as camp classics, eg Sponge Bob Squarepants (cummon .. him and Patrick are obviously shagging ;D)
