An advisory notice was circulated, gently reminding clinicians that these rare instances can occur, and suggested not using labels like mother when interacting with them.

But 1 person requires a rule change?

That's all well and good but why does the whole world need to change just for a very small number of people.  It's not that serious.  I don't know why they couldn't just put a note in the persons record.

I used to work in a call center and every once in a while a woman with a deep voice would be called "sir" because the phone rep didn't realize they were talking to a woman.  They would put a note in the file and hopefully if the person called again the same honest mistake wouldn't get made.
