<![CDATA[What acutally is a download slot?]]>I looked around the Forum for the answer to this question, but didn't see a plain explanation. I'm going to make a donation, and noticed that as part of my thank-you I temporarily get extra download slots.

What exactly is a download slot? How does it work? Are more better?

I'm not a technical person, and so thought I ought to ask, as there may be others similarly ignorant about them.

Obviously, making a donation changes the number of slots that you have available. Seeding torrents do not count towards these limits BTW.

The total number you can download in a day is in theory the total number of .torrent files that the site will give you in a day, excluding your own uploads and torrents you've already completed that you're re-seeding.

The actual "slots" themselves are counted as the maximum number of simultaneous torrents that are reporting as leeching to the tracker. Once your torrent completes, it switches from "leeching" to "seeding" in the tracker, and thus no longer counts as a download slot.

It is the number of simultaneous downloads you can make as well as the total number you can make each day.
