      'Selected Ambient Works 85 - 92' - Aphex Twin

So I wouldn't recommend any of his other albums, and there are some more spooky and sinister tracks on this album that I'd avoid, but there's some really great chill music too, I often listen to this on my way home from work, the first track always makes me feel happy.

      'Howl' - Rival Consoles
Some nice pure ambient, although a bit too melancholy for some.

      '4' - Boozoo Bajou

Some nice electronic jazz fusion, sounds like a movie soundtrack for a spy thriller.

      'Pure Heroine' - Lorde

Yeah I know, top 40, sellout, pop is trash, whatever. This is a solid, down tempo album, stripped of any excess, and with a great performance by her. One of the best debut albums in recent memory.

OK so how other people have said "electronic" music to "relax" to can pretty much cover anything.

The Orb can be relaxing. They can also not be relaxing.

Vapourwave is a thing. There's a band called something like 2142. It is too close to nothing for my liking but is electronic and is relaxing. Possibly too relaxing.

One band I would recommend to you is port-royal. They are only vaguely describable. I would say they are chilled electronic with a bit of a post-rock vibe. Flares is the best album I think but the rest are good. (not heard No Ware something or other, their latest)

You should also check out some soundtracks.

Stars In The Lid could be up your street. Again it depends on what you want from your music. The Tired Sounds Of and & The Definement Of Their Decline is music I would recommend if you want to sleep. Max Richter's Sleep is what you really want for that though. The full version. I think it's 8 hours and is designed to sleep to.

          +1 for
Massive Attack - Mezzanine (I wouldn't call it chilled though)
          Air - Moon Safari
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 2 (the original is a bit of a slog)

And, sorry but I love it, Lorde. South Park has so much to answer to!! Ya Ya Ya I am Lorde.

Yeah, I know that some people believe that Mezzanine is more like a background music for having sex, but I have listened to it while writing bc it let me focus and relax at the same time.  😛

Try digging some stuff by Christian Jansen a.k.a. C-Jay.  Start with Backslider.

SemenDemon said it best, you are being too vauge. The real key to finding music you may or may not like is to give us an example.  As other posters have stated with their own suggestions many genres of music use electronic influences, I wouldn't even try to say different. "Electronic music to relax to" is a minefield, so help us out and find something you would consider electronic and we can get the ball rolling.

BTW Electro is a genre in itself, along with ambient, downtempo and chilled. Tends to be dancefloor music is Electro.

That last post is a help because I would suggest Phillip Glass or Steven Reich (sp?), both of which sound electronic even when they aren't. Uh, they are also before 'electronic' I both hate and am fascinated by 'electronic' music as I am, have always been, partially deaf. This DOES NOT mean you aren't hearing things. I hear most things OK. More or less. But what I have is background noise. Lots and lots of it. Always. So my brain attempts to compensate for it by making up music, of some sort. Some a Capella men's choir. Mostly random, very, very repetitive crap. Words will crop up at times to go with the 'music' and I can only pray that they aren't too horrible.

Steve "Coldcut" Reich ?  Back in the day, electronic would sometimes refer to how the music was made.  Making music in a home studio really blossomed during this time, for a moderate sum of money people could make their own music in the way they like and cut out record company investment and influence. Not just in a club/dancefloor style of music, but with anyone who wanted to get creative.  If it was good independant labels would licence it for release or take on the act to the label giving them creative freedom and a platform to get noticed to a level where major commercial labels buy in.

There's actually two Steve Reichs (sp?) that I know of and they're a bit odd. There is a Steve Reich (I do have it right:) from1936. Different Trains is mostly what I have.

I miss chat. Forums suck for trying to converse. And, yes I know there is the the alternative, but it's like a small town now… If you haven't lived there forever.... well, we'll be nice enough.

Not electronic, but this thread is getting way off-topic anyway. So, if you like the early releases from Reich and Glass, Charlemagne Palestine is also worth looking into:

But dear God, you have to at some time. listen to this. More awesome than I remember. Play it for your friends as a party joke and ask when it was made. If they know, then knew already.

ambient could be the genre for you.
