I only hope the 21st century to be a century of humankind. It is increasingly likely, however, that our time on this planet is due.

Really depends, too many uncertain factors at this point.

Population wise & spending power wise they're going to be unparalled soon but at the same point their awkward population structure is going to affect a lot of things. (see their pension system, which is even worse than social security here).

Yes. I would love to see another power rise and challenge American imperialism.

Many Americans seem concerned but I think it would be a refreshing change in the global balance of power. At least we won't have Americans exploiting natural resources and complaining at China's attempts to do so. In the end, competition also forges cooperation.

If I recall correctly, China's economy will be the largest in 2030 and it already is the largest if scaled to spending power. This shouldn't be surprising since China is a large country with a huge population.

Strange question.. are you concerned by china? chinese yourself?
Chinese now want more money, therefore we are now building factories where it's cheaper : Philippines, India, Malaysia . That's the problem with countries which income only comes from low level skilled manufacturing: as soon as they start to ask for more social protection, more money, investors will found new poors as no skills are required. So in order to still get money, Chinese understand they also need to exploit poor people, and that's what they do in Africa, Ethiopia for instance, where they build lots of factories for shoe making. But because chinese have not much respect for anything( humans rights, animals rights, environment, property, intellectual property and so on ), countless international observers report terrible work condition in theses factories where humans are treated basically like slaves.
What will happen is clear , in like 200 years, the rich countries will be much less rich, but poor countries will have more money. The whole world will be a giant low middle class society. Luckily I'll be long gone
