And then there's those who don't have the courtesy to reply a simple "Thank You" after they got a LARGE seed bonus…. i am talking about one specific person a while ago who had uploaded a small-ish video but one that was exactly my taste, i saw the uploader had been given a warning for too low ratio (he was a newbie, probably his first couple of downloads got him there as happens easily) so i appreciated his upload with enough seed bonus to propel his ratio from 0.2 to 2.5 or something and sent him a PM explaining how to convert the seed bonus into upload credits.

Within a couple of hours he had done that but didn't even bother to reply my PM. Not that i would have requested a reply but it would have been nice nevertheless.

And within another few days his ratio was below 0.5 again. But i did NOT help him again.

I rarely download, mostly just upload here but if i do download i am never stingy with the bonus because i got a ton of it due to my uploading... it is a courtesy which takes noting but a few seconds of time.

This was a very illuminating discussion. I've given away 3/4 of the seed bonus I have earned for the torrents I have appreciated. I've been blind to the "appropriateness" of the gift to a particular uploader, because I can see so little information for most members.
I am also uncomfortable with begging for points, but it's never a happy situation when you have to make more rules.
Social engineering that helps people do the right thing can also be effective.

So rather than tell people that they can't/shouldn't beg, just say they if they want to request bonus points, then the “beggars’ bonus records is made transparent to all–so that the donor can see what the requesters behavior has been. Bonus point privacy is waived if you want to ask for them. This would differentiate the needy from the whore.
For me, if I see a person is really needy, like the gift to the new user described above, I will want to given even more help.

if I knew that someone is wealthy with 4000 points they don’t need, I would send them a message or make a comment to tell them of my appreciation. Along that same line, if I have 100 bonus points and I give half of them away because I want to encourage the uploader, I would feel foolish to learn later that the uploader had 4000 bp. If they are not needed, perhaps the uploader could acknowledge the appreciation, but decline the gift. Right now, I don’t think that’s an option.

hmmm - I wonder why people don't have a look at the left side of forum postings, there is nearly everything available which can help with a decision about SBP - isn't it? Of course only for users who really post in our forum I admit - but we should convince all users to use our forum a bit more and not only download pr0n

A ratio that high is a bit abusive, unless they are a "power uploader".

I don't know if I qualify as a "power uploader", but I have uploaded quite a few torrents here.
I have made a point of NOT abandoning my torrents as soon as they have been fully seeded.
Is this behavior now regarded as "abusive"?

No you are not being abusive. This thread is basically to rail against users who BEG for seed bonus points….especially if they have a great ratio. As far as I can tell you don't ask for SBP and you gift SBP to other uploaders so you are fine. This does not apply to you at all. BTW thanks for sharing.

I recently received some warnings from my ISP stating that I'm over my alloted monthly bandwidth of 60gb. In fact I've been closer to 200gb a month. As a result, I've certainly curtailed my downloading and uploading as of late. This is what I get for living in the sticks of Canada, as all the other ISP's available to me also have a cap on bandwidth.

Needless to say, I'm a desperate seed whore, and that certainly won't change until I move later this year.

You could at least describe the torrent in the torrent description. I'm pretty sure that if you can't at least do that it will change before you move later this year. I'm just sayin' ;D

I personally find it funny and sad for people that ask for seed bonus. Most of my downloads are from before the seed bonus system was up and I'm not going back to give out SBP, but I usually now a days give out SBP's. As for my upload's, I dont request sbp's since my ratio is high enough but I don't mind getting them ;D

Also random fact: I do help seed other people's torrents that they have uploaded that i have from a different site thats new to this site

Thanks for posting this… it gave me a bit to think about. I was need to 'seed bonus'ing and was just used to simple ratio systems. I've been uploading recently, and would end my torrent description with "thanks in advance for any seedbonus" but then, after reading your post, I realize I'm not sharing the wealth enough myself! Thanks for the reminder to do unto others (faces)....

It takes getting used to the fact that a site like this is also something of a community, and not just a place to get the means for .....
As usual in any place where people meet, there are people behaving and people misbehaving. :police:
( I love those smilies). Thanks for reminding me. Up to a short while ago I just considered all those thingies with the statistics just for fun, or somebodies hobby to make a nice website.
I am changing my opinion on the last sentence. Being a "socially correct" person has always been my way of life.
Will do that here too.

I don't know about you, but I am certainly a whore for good porn. This GT.ru torrent site has become my staple since I joined, to the exclusion of other sources.

I am so grateful that this "Seed Bonus Whores" forum thread continues to take such a friendly tone. I have found that our entire forum remains so friendly and a haven for gemütlichkeit.

In the spirit of many about giving instead of taking, I give SBP's frequently and staff offers several methods for gaining points to member uploaders. Sadly, we at GT.ru are not in a technical position to give points to members unless they have provided one or more torrent uploads. But for uploaders, please check out several methods to gain points.

Hey guys(and girls…maybe ::) ),

I added a poll to this thread.

As I post filled request and search for torrents you would be amazed at how many people beg for SBP. As a matter these search results for seed bonus should expose the culprits.

I put the poll up because I'm really curious if I am "making a mountain out of a mole hill" here. Personally when I read a torrent description, that's what I want to read…..a torrent description.

If it bothers other members to see SBP begging at the top of a torrent description, IN ALL CAPS, like it does me then there finally may be a need to address this as a new tracker guideline.

It took me quite some time to decide for your 2nd option. Initially I wanted to vote NO (and I'm still convinced that NO should be the final solution) - but I do know that we can't convince all those beggar attempting guys at all to stop begging for SBP. So I had to vote with YES - in the last line of a torrent description.

Frankly: I'm giving SBP for a lot of uploads - NEVER though where the uploader begs for SBP, even as the last line of a torrent description. Might be some get the idea and stop begging. A torrent description is a description of that upload and is supposed to give our members information about that upload and if it is worth to download that torrent (and data). I can't see any reason for begging for SBP, by now all members should know that they can reward an uploader with SBP and luckily a lot do so too

I just can recommend: show beggars that their begging is contra-productive for themselves!

Sorry for the double post but I was thinking of how great it would be if we could include gifted SBP for all to see. I for one will not give SBP to someone who has thousands of SBP but has given zero to other uploaders

Tracker members cannot see that info though. Only mods and admins can see profiles. ??? Would be nice to see the gifted SBPs wouldn't it?

That could be the answer, members will think twice before asking for seed bonus points IMHO

It would be great if we could see stats of seed bonus point requesters. That way i would l know if they really needed the sbp before I give them to them.

Since I have a steady flow of bonus points accruing I like the idea of giving points every time I click to download something. I know if I had more time and expertise I could probably give back to the network more than I do. Giving points is an easy thing to do and I can avoid feeling useless.
Are there any reasons why one would not want to do so? My question is: how do you know how many to give. So far the only "rule of thumb" I can think of is - don't exhaust them. That way you can keep giving them.

PS I'm on the sidelines most of the time but I do enjoy the community here.
