It's kind of creepy the kind of thing that Microsoft is pushing on all their customers. My only question is how do you deal with these configurations when you get a brand new computer from a big box store with an OEM copy of Windows 10 pre-installed? Is there any way to change these settings after the fact that the os has been installed, with these added options, no doubt?

Although there is not a tits bit of difference between 8.1 and 10, I would still go with 10 because Microsoft tends to punish people who don't keep their operating system current.

For those brave souls that have had it for a little bit, what do u think of it?  I'm perfectly happy with 8.1; should I upgrade?

Yeah I'm pretty content with it. STILL some bugs here and there but it's a better experience than 8 or 8.1 imo.

Edge is pretty underwhelming personally but guess that doesn't matter since you can switch back to Chrome/Firefox/Opera etc. as you please.

The design is also better than Windows 7 imo. Another good thing is how light-weight it is. I'm quite fond of it after several months of use and after they sorted out the major bugs.

Actually.. I have noticed something like that.
For years, my ISP throttled me (and denied it).  My internet would be extremely slow, and I would do a speed test on the connection which would confirm that.  i found a way to defeat their throttling by using a VPN to "tunnel" through their detection of bandwidth usage. 
Lately, I no longer have the ISP slowing down my connection, but I am not sure that they have not found a more sophisticated way to "throttle" connections.  I have a lot of torrents that are transferring very slowly, even though my connection speed is at 100%.
