It is extremely dangerous, even if you are fit and healthy, to do strenuous exercise when you have the flu. When doctors say "rest", they mean it. There is always a spike in heat attacks during and in the months following flu season.</p>
<p dir="auto">However, a lot of people mistake a cold for the flu. The flu causes a sore throat in the early stages, HIGH FEVER, chills, headache, muscle and joint pain, but often relatively minor respiratory symptoms compared to a common cold. If you have a runny nose, sneezing, coughing, red eyes, but no high fever and no headache and no muscular pain, you have a cold, not the flu. If you really have the flu (H1N1 influenza), you probably won't be thinking about doing anything except laying on your back.</p>

Although, the rule I remember hearing is no workout if you have a fever.  Best to rest.</p>
