24 in my case. that was scary moment somehow, esp when i have to coming out in front of my parents. lol

At 16 I got up the courage to ask a guy if he was gay, he said no and asked me if I was; I said yes. Turns out, he was bi. About a month before my 20th birthday, I went to a gay group in my university town. After that, more and more people knew. I have never sat anyone down and had the ‘I am gay’ speech though. If I had done that with my parents, it would have been a nasty angry scene, so I brought my boyfriend home to Barbados for Christmas (I had just turned 23). We had only been together 6 months at that point, and even a blind person could tell we were in love. Wow was that a tense Christmas, but no one said anything too hurtful or hateful, and the subject of my being gay was never touched. Things were strained with my mother for a few years but my sisters were ok with everything. After a few years my mother eventually started to call my partner her ‘other son’. She was very upset when our relationship ended after 18 years.

My internet history outed me to my parents at 12 and it could have been worse but was not ideal . I did promise my parents I wouldn't 'make any decisions' until I was 18. I came out to everyone else after my High School Graduation and it went smoothly that time.

I came out at 22. One of the best decisions I ever made. My biggest fears of losing family or friends did not happen.

I came out at 15 myself, and it went pretty smoothly. As it turns out, most of the girls I knew were fooled by my straight boy act.

I came out to my mother at 24. My father was already gone. And for the rest of my family, my mother did her part. Didnt have any trouble with anyone. And it was a real relief.
