If the state has legalized same sex marriages or it has been legalized then no matter what the clerks should have to do their jobs and issue the license. Their religious beliefs should never come into play since they are not working for themselves.

The same holds true for any employee. Their beliefs do not come into play while working. If their employer has no issue with with same sex marriages then while they are working they have no issue with it as well.

If people do not want to do their job because of their religious beliefs then they should no longer have that job.

Governmental and non-profit organizations are exempt from the Equal Rights Ordinance.

Religious non-profit organizations are exempt from the Equal Rights Ordinance.

You may request a religious accommodation from the Equal Rights Ordinance.

If they are going to pass an ordinance they should have everyone follow it. Their own government doesn't even have to follow it.

I didn't know these non-profits and government organizations were exempt (ignorance on my part for not covering all of my bases). While it's awesome that over half of our American states legalize same sex marriage, I'm still hoping Texas will end up in that group one day.

The UK routinely puts in clauses at the start that they have no obligation to obey or enforce the law.

I'm not sure nonprofits are automatically exempt, unless they can show a religious reason.
