<![CDATA[Can uTorrent 2.2.1 be made to do SSL?]]>I'm using uTorrent 2.2.1, the last good version of that software, but have never been able to get it to open a secured connection to a tracker.  Nothing using https works.

I found the setting here to turn off SSL, so I'm back working again, but just wondered if there's a way to make it work with SSL (since it may not be optional forever).  Is there a mysterious setting that I've missed, or does this version just not do secure connections?  It would be a shame to have to move to a later, less useful, version of uTorrent over this.

More particularly, pretty well all SOCKS proxies (4 or 5) that are anonymous proxies do not support JavaScript in the transmission process. A full VPN (PPTP) on the other hand does support this type of thing. Some VPN servers however do not support the packet forwarding, which can make it problematic to run torrents through them.

As for your other question, yes... We do have an HTTP option instead of HTTPS. To convert a torrent already in uTorrent over to our HTTP tracker, change the beginning of the URL from this:

https://tracker.gaytor.rent/

to this

http://tracker.gaytorrent.tw:2710/

Everything after the / in the URL should remain the same as it contains your passkey.

If you want to change the default on the site to automatically use the HTTP instead of HTTPS, you can change this default in your User Profile Settings on your account. Once this option is changed, any new .torrent files you download from GT.ru will automatically have the HTTP tracker URL appended to them instead of the HTTPS tracker.

The problem with using a VPN is that then all my traffic goes through the VPN.  With the proxy, only my bittorrent traffic goes through that extra hop.  So I prefer to use a proxy.

So far, yours is the only https tracker I've run up against, and you do have the http alternative.

In short, most proxy servers will not work to connect to the system's back-end because of technical changes to the way that it works. In a nut shell, there is a re-direct that occurrs, which most proxy servers are incapable of picking up, which causes the packet to be dropped. Your best bet honestly is to invest a monthly fee into a VPN (PPTP Preferred) in order to get around this. It will stop you from being directly exposed to copyright trolls, but at the same time, will still allow you to connect to the servers.

Of course I do want to use the proxy, but wonder if this is just an inherent problem of using any proxy, or whether the one I use just doesn't offer that feature.  It seems like it ought to work since all the proxy does is do IP and port translation.  But maybe not.

Can you shed any light on this?

Also, I find that my utorrent build isn't quite the last one.  I have 25130.  I'll update to your 25302 and see if that makes any difference, but I doubt it will.

Suspect it's some other issue at your end, such as your ISP not supporting SSL???
