Utopia - Best Series Ever
-
I'm American so I have to steal this show online…but I LOVE Utopia.
I mean part of my love for the show is that I think the villains are right. There are too many people on the planet and no one has a solution to fix that.
-
No No NO! Don't buy into that crap. This planet can support many more people, the powers that be spread that lie.
-
Hopefully this puts a little extra pressure on Fincher.
Utopia getting Best Drama is bittersweet.
-
Yeah. I'd rather it put pressure on Channel 4. Dennis Kelley went to the network and asked for 2 episodes to wrap up the cliffhanger, but they turned him down.

Giggle. THE NETWORK would turn him down!

Oh hai dere.
Just wanted to pop in and say Utopia is absolutely the best show and yes, yes, yes.
Everything—and I do mean everything—involved with this show is glorious. Writing, characterization, cinematography, saturation, music (fucking bless Cristobal; you wonderful, wonderful man).
It's absolute mental deficiency on C4's part to cancel this show. I am still bitter about checking out Utopia's Facebook page and seeing the bullshit news that there'd be no third season.
(Graaah. Got me all worked up again.)
A beautiful show that had me hopelessly hooked. Why don't we anthropomorphize Utopia for a bit: had it been a man, he could've done whatever he wanted to me any hour of the week and I wouldn't have complained. Not once, not ever. Because DAMN, this show was that good. A total freak.

Oh yes please for the music, sort of apocryphal & dated now but just because https://youtu.be/PR-AWNFgSg0

Furthermore, where does Jessica hide?
-
Glenn Close is being considered for Mr. Rabbit? Fantastic news, if so. Love her in Damages (which reminds me, I really ought to pick up the series again; still two more seasons to go!).
Nice bit of music there. And Jessica Hyde, goddamn; as dangerous as they come, a viciousness equal to her enemies. If the US adaptation doesn't die in development hell then they've got to find an actress who can pull of Hyde perfectly. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to find that #WhereIsJessicaHyde? is a thing. :3
-
Glenn Close is Mister Rabbit in my mind so actually no she is not being considered but if I was Glenn Close's people I would get off the phone with Phil Collin's people and be begging for the role that would finally make her a star

That said I have started rumours before that turned out true, my latest is that HBO is developing Brokeback Mountain as a series, when I casually mentioned my little rumour recently at a party a total random started disclosing details about the series like Jake 'greedy bottom' Gyllenhaal is executive producing. I didn't have the heart to say it was a rumour I started because sometimes what we wish for does indeed come from over the rainbow.
-
Haven't watched Brokeback Mountain, actually, so I've no idea if it'd be a good thing or not for HBO to adapt it.
Some Utopia-related news: Cristobal Tapia de Veer (bless this man) will be doing the soundtrack for Channel 4's/AMC's Humans. Very, very nice.
-
Episode 1 of Humans was loved here and without knowing that little tidbit. I was watching and going "Hey that's so and so" & "That's so and so" and did I see RB? I remember thinking whose the guy that reminds me of William Hurt and then being shocked when it was William Hurt but didn't look up whether it was RB or not.
To be clear: Brokeback Mountain on HBO is totally trademarked by me. Whatever anyone tells you it's a rumour I started. Whether or not the eventual series is worth it, the film is worth watching as pastoral softcore porn for your inner homosexual. How gay cowboys can be elevated beyond anything but softcore porn is beyond me. This coming from a man who once was in that same telephone booth as Ennis.
-
Looked it up and it is RB!!!
-
Yuuuuuup, it is him. I Googled mid-episode when I saw him to confirm the suspicion.
Anywho, I see you've started a proper thread for the show, so I'll haunt that place from now on.
-
I definitely heard Cristobal watching Episode 2 of Humans and did a little google on him. Was mildly pleased/surprised to learn he is based out of Montreal. I won't begrudge him this little nugget of Canadian radio over airplay from a decade ago https://youtu.be/JFHQL6LGjMk

Bad news for HBO's take on Utopia: HBO and David Fincher couldn't come up with an agreement regarding the budget, so the project is dead for now. HBO owns the rights to adapt the series so Fincher can't shop it around.

The Network is real.

I heard the first series (i.e. season) is on U.S. Netflix as of this month. I watched the whole thing a couple of months ago after reading this thread and liked it a lot - both the story and the character developments were quite interesting. According to the solarmovie date listing (hxxps://www.solarmovie.is/tv/utopia-2013/), the second series ran in July and August 2014. Does anyone know if there'll be a third?
If you liked Utopia, you might like the US series "The Americans" with Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys playing KGB agents deep undercover as average Americans in the 1980s USA. I watched it just before Utopia. The characterizations are great and, while I'm not much into spy stories, the story arcs and individual episodes are quite riveting - sometimes I'm on the edge of my seat several times an episode. And I have totally gay dirt on Keri Russell's hair omg omg…but that's neither here nor there.

Unfortunately, there won't be a third series since Channel 4 decided not to renew it.
