A sweet potato has tons more nutrients than a plain potato. Calorie count is higher but you get much more major vitamins and minerals with a sweet potato.

The starch content is also much lower as well as a much lower starch to carb to sugar conversion ratio. Many diabetics eat sweet potatoes because it doesn't cause a spike in their sugar levels. My mom was a diabetic for 24 years and the only potato she could eat were sweet potatoes.

Also because a potato is a complex carb it takes much more energy to break it down.

Want to through your metabolism into overdrive?
Take a couple of nice size sweet potatoes and bake them.
Cut the potatoes into 3oz or 4 oz servings and wrap in plastic wrap.
Then every 3 hours eat one of the small servings. You have to time it exactly 3 hours.
Do this your entire waking hours.
Do it for 3 days and see what effect it has on you.
By day four you will most likely feel hungry all the time because your metabolism has gone nuts. Just remember to feed yourself something in moderate amounts every 3 or 4 hours to keep the metabolism going strong.

One of the side effects of having a high metabolism is the hunger.
No faster than you eat and just a short while later your starving again.

I don't know how healthy they are compared to the tuber but it tastes pretty good. DO NOT eat regular potato's leaves and stems because they are poisonous.

I never liked sweet potatoes though, but in Taiwan they are easier to find than regular potatoes. I guess I just like the neutral flavor profile of regular potato… however by itself (no ketchups, etc.) Sweet potatoes do taste better, however I would go nuts eating ONLY that (and you will, because your body will suffer).

If eating with meat then I just can't imagine eating sweet potatoes with that...

Nah man, sweet potatos is always better. Always.

I havenæt tried sweet potao fries or chips tho, but I bet they are awesome!

I've never heard of a "sweet potato diet".

However, replacing regular potatoes with sweet potatoes is healthier and has a lot less carbs.

Wrong, normal potatos have 15% carbs, sweet potatos have about 17-18%

Because they are sweet.

Not that it makes a huge difference tho. But as you said they are much much more healthy. Normal potatoes don't have much going for them.

k to sum up:

sweet potato is not technically a diet food… cellery would be better for example.

But it's great to have IN your diet, as it's a nice and clean source of carbs and antioxidants, especially the orange beta carotene which makes ur skin look great.

That's genetics, fast metabolism vs slow metabolism. it's still about calories. I could spend days in bed eating just junk, I would not get fat.

Some foods make you last longer, like sugar is fast carb and won't make you full so youll just eat more, and slow carbs will make you stuffed longer for example oats, slow proteins like cottage cheese, and vegetables like carrots and cellery. because they simply take longer to digest, but it's all about daily calories eaten vs daily calories burned.

All theese "one thing diet" plans are all bullshit

eating just sweet potatoes would make you fat and weak, cos it has no protein and a lot of carbs, even fast carbs (it has sugars)

Same with low carb diet. That'lll make your brain weak cos the brain needs carbs.

Same with Salad diet, cos salads are just water, and you need proteins minerals vitamins and fat aswell.

Sweet potato is really healthy tho because of it's orange color, so I'd rather eat that then normal potatos.

I'm eating sweet potato every day and I got great skin tone cos of it. It taste yummy and is a great source for carbs.

Food is not rocket science, you need a combination of everything… some need more calories than others (skinny ectomorphs), some need less (fat endomorphs) some need more nutrition than others (sportsmen) some need more protein (bodybuilders) it's so fucking logic...
